In line with the post of the Gemballa Ring-record, what's the fastest (production) car you have ever driven?
For me it were the Audi RS4 Avant, Honda S2000, 993 911 Turbo and soon a Corvette C06.

Fastest top speed - Viper GTS - crashed it on the Ring - woops. Went past a Porsche GT3, big smile, two minutes later, hello armco!
Fastest acceleration - Westfield Megabusa - bike engined Caterham type car. 175 bhp. Scary, but the most sensational sound I've ever experienced. Again, two laps of the Ring in it, then it broke down. A mechanic managed to cut the immobiliser wire whilst under the bonnet - unrepairable so had to be trailered back to England :0(

I was lucky not to drive any of those cars on the Ring, probably would have been fatal (either the car or me) :).
I'd really would like to drive one of the Lotus 7-type cars. They're a rare appearance over here in Holland, except for the Donkervoorts off course. But they can rarely be seen on the road (except for some pictures I took in the paddock at the Zandvoort circuit).
They must have a phenomenal accelaration and braking, but what's the handling like?

Handling is very good - wheel at each corner, and all that. Really good track cars. Quite often see Caterham 7's and Donkervoorts at the Ring. Generally easy to grab a passenger lap if you want to experience it.
Very light cars, so very responsive to small steering inputs, and the back end is fairly well stuck down - you don't need a lot of power to enjoy them. Although it helps :0) I've got a nice picture of the Megabusa going down Fuchsrohre on the Ring, but it's in the wrong format to post here. I'll mail it to you - see if you can open it?

I remembered reading EVO last week, with their TCOTY event. The Caterham Fireblade won the title (same kind of car). Here are the first five laptimes (excluding a Ducati 996 reference bike) on the West Circuit of the Bedford Autodrome (need I say more?):
1. Caterham R500 1.14.34
2. Westfield Megabusa 1.15.02
3. Caterham Fireblade 1.17.64
4. Westfield Megabird 1.19.63
5. QED Elise 1.21.30
Uhm, some other contenders (I couldn't stop):
Subaru Impreza WRX (1.25.23), Elise S2 (1.25.88)

We tried to get the Caterham R500 over to the Ring (who wouldn't?), but the company wasn't very helpful and unresponsive when we approached them. They said you can only have it for one day in the UK for a test drive.
So we went to Westfield, who were very helpful, and sent a Megabusa on a trailer; two mechanics; and their PR person over for four days to the Ring in April. They combined this with seeing some of their German dealers at the same time - made sense.
As soon as Caterham caught wind of this, miraculously, they said Oh we do have an R500 for you after all! But we told 'em to f*ck off, too late!
The Megabusa was a sensational car, it's just such a shame that stuff beyond our control meant we only got a couple of laps in it. Lucky we got a photo when we did. We were figuring we'd have loads more laps to do photography later in the day.
You can see how close in times the Megabusa is to the R500, and that car held the production car lap record at the Ring - not sure if it still does?

Nice picture of the Corvette C06 - don't know a lot about that particular model. What sort of power? Probably similar to driving the Viper GTS - huge big tyres on the back, which grip for a long time, but when the rear end lets go, it lets go in a big way! I was quite impressed by the Viper - expected it to be all straightline speed an no cornering ability, but was also quite good around the corners.
Another question Stephane - you've driven the Honda S2000? What were your impressions. I've heard it feels a bit gutless/low powered below the vtec rev range. Do you really notice the power take off when you get it upto high revs? I haven't driven one, but I imagine the handling to be very sweet. Probably needs more power to make it really interesting, though. I've heard a rumour that a new higher powered model could be coming out shortly

You have now entered my car-database side (I try to be like a walking car database):
The Corvette is, according to my uncle a pleasure to drive. He actually mentioned it is in some cases better to drive than a Ferrari, and comparable to a Porsche 911. Power delivered is 344 bhp, through a 6 speed manual gearbox (rear-wheel, off course).
With regards to the S2000, it all depends on your reference material. For example compared to an Elise (which I actually drove as well, didn't mention it) or a Megabusa it might be slower, but surely not gutless. You do notice a (big) difference when passing the VTEC-point on the rev. Not only by the changing sound of the car (more vicious), but also by the improved performance. Sounds like a car mag, but it's my experience. Driveability is sweet, but tricky. It's easy to get it into oversteer, and not so easy to get it back in line. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to drive it on a circuit, but it was a pleasure to drive. But I'm also a bit biased,being a Honda freak.

Fastest car I have driven was a volvo (!) V70 T5. Not standard though. Engine has been tweaked twice, one time by volvo and one time in Holland. volvo also lowered the vehicle both in front and rear. The dutch tuner lowered its front even further. To increase brake power as well an AP brake system was fitted on the front axle.
As far as I know its current power output has not been measured. But is should be somewhere in the vincinity of 300bhp. This car was so damn fast, if you accelerate with high rev. the signal light for screen wiper fluid refill turns on, even when you just filled it. I only got to drive in it for all together 3 hours, but I can guarantee you it were 3 extremely nice hours!

The Fastest Car I have ever driven is my parents MTM Audi RS4 Avant, wich has a acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in about 3.8 seconds. It's really scary.
Further fast cars i've driven (not behind the wheel, i don't have my driver's license yet) are: An Audi A8 6.0 quattro, Audi S4 Avant, A tuned A6 2.7T quattro, A Maserati 3200GT, Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Sportwagon, Ferrari 360 Modena, BMW M5 (Ringtaxi), Porsche 911 GT3 and a TVR Cerbera 4.5 litre. And my dad's Audi A8 3.3 TDI quattro (Fully B&B Spec tuned).
But I've never driven a Skyline GT-R, wich freaks me out

Fastest car I've driven, is a MY98 Prodrive-tuned Impreza GT Turbo (obviously, you didn't expect another make from me now did you?). I managed just over 260 km/h on the speedo early Sunday morning on the A6 in The Netherlands. It was a demo from a dealer (at that time located in Zoetermeer) and later it was bought by a guy who actually took it to the Ring quite often, I can remember he even posted at 8200rpm.com up until a few months ago.
Car I've driven fastest, is my former Nordschleife car, that car could really take a trashing around the track, unfortunately, there came an end to that at some point...

My own car is a 13 year old Audi 80 with 88 HP... BOOOOORING!!!
But I had a few nice testdrives with Lotus Superseven (Caterham), Mini Cooper S, Porsche Boxster S, Audi TT roadster (big engine), Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2. Alfa Romeo 156 Sportswagon 3.2 V6 24V GTA .
Lets see what the furture brings :-)

Hi,
Fatest car I have ever driven was a Subaru Impreza with around 310bhp. And I rode on the holiest of roads: The Nurburgring. I dont know how fat it was but I'm sure a was faster with my civc wich was my regular Ring car.
I have also drove along with someone in a (actualy 2 different) Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32&R33) with around 450bhp, also at the ring. Awsome sound.

Fastest in a car with me driving .. indicated 270KPH in friend's Porsche Carrera C2.
Fastest point to point accelerating car.. mine. Drop the clutch at over 5000rpm and the RS2 will hit 0 to 100kph in 4.8 secs. Fantastic in-gear acceleration too.. love it!
